The Housing Choice Voucher Service Representative is responsible for the intake of applications, screening of applicants, and documentation of income for individuals applying for the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK

• Determine eligibility of applicants for the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.
• Work effectively with the general public and with persons of all income levels and backgrounds.
• Enforce necessary regulations with firmness and tact.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

EXAMPLES OF THE WORK

• Provide information regarding the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program to interested applicants.
• Examine and review applications for Section 8 Housing Assistance Program applicants for eligibility.
• Provide counseling to families on Equal Housing Opportunity and explain shopping incentives, the provisions of the lease and tenant responsibilities.
• Provide information and explain the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program to landlords.
• Request housing inspections on dwelling units selected by families.
• Review inspection reports and negotiate needed repairs where necessary.
• Issue Certificates, review and prepare contracts and leases for dwelling units and make rent determinations where necessary.
• Maintain files and reports regarding the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.
• Conduct inspections and review plans for seismic safety precautions and code compliance.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Salary Information: $38,500 annually
