CITY OF OWENSBORO Seeks qualified applicants for the following Full-time, Non-civil service position:

CITY ATTORNEY Provides general legal counsel to the Owensboro Board of Commissioners, City Manager, City Boards, Civil Service Commission, and City departments to ensure legally defensible, accurate, and customer-oriented legal services, using generally accepted legal practices, under the direction of the City Manager in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

City Attorney drafts, reviews, and edits deeds, contracts, state and local legislation, agreements, municipal orders, ordinances, and legal correspondence; Handles civil litigation involving the City, including but not limited to, condemnation, damage claims, civil rights, declaratory actions and contracts. Starting pay commensurate with experience. Provided benefits include but are not limited to; health insurance, group life insurance, and wellness program. Paid time off including; vacation, sick time, and holidays (for eligible employees).

QUALIFICATIONS (Required at time of application): Bachelors Degree; major is flexible as long as Juris Doctorate Degree obtained, and 4 yrs. experience as a Practicing Attorney. Valid driver’s license required. Compliance with annual continuing legal education credits, required by KBA. Experience in employment law, real estate law, contracts, and municipal law is preferred.
