POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Utility Director, the electrician provides installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems within industrial type facilities owned by the City’s Municipal Utility along with other general services within City buildings and properties. Types of equipment and parts are related to control panels, PLCs, motor controls, and motors. The position requires extensive knowledge of electrical components as well as safety codes and regulations. The individual must be professional, technical, and mechanically proficient. The work can be physically demanding. In order to install and repair equipment, they may need to crawl, climb, and stand for extended periods of time. They must be able to operate tools in close proximity to electrical components. Electrician must be able understand and make decisions based on technical documents, such as engineering drawings and schematics, diagrams, or instructions. They must be motivated to work on their own or as part of a team. Strong communication skills are a necessary part of the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical components of equipment.
  • Must work both as part of a team and individually to complete projects.
  • Responsible for operating, changing over, setting, repairing, and improving on equipment and providing support for the workings of auxiliary equipment.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs on pumps and other electrical equipment.
  • Observes safety procedures and meets relevant electrical codes.
  • Maintains and updates record logs of labor, materials, and equipment utilization.
  • Responsible for calibrating and checking instruments.
  • Responds quickly to emergency situations.
  • Wires machines and electrical panels in line with prints.
  • Analyzes blueprints and lots of schematics and makes decisions based on technical documents.
  • Utilizes an array of tools and diagnostic devices to service and install electrical components.
  • Performs quality testing and inspections.
  • Troubleshoots problems and identifies logical solutions.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILTIES:

  • Must have a strong understanding of and experience with PLC Controls.
  • Excellent knowledge of industrial safety rules and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial and electrical laws.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as job duties demand.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of inclement weather.
  • Strong mechanical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with the general public and employees across all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge and experience in automation and artificial intelligence.
  • Must possess strong electrical and mechanical abilities.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and machinery.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance priorities to ensure adherence to critical deadlines.
  • Awareness of operational machinery problems in short proximity.
  • Proven ability to read measure devices and blueprints.
  • Critical problem solving skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates degree in electrical technology, electronics, or similar field is preferred.
  • Journeyman experience or completion of a formal apprenticeship program.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of electrical experience in water, wastewater, and public services is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid KY electrician’s license or equivalate state license that is transferable to Kentucky.

Salary Information: COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $33,594 - $53,751.
