The Town of Abingdon is seeking an experienced local government professional to serve as Assistant Town Manager. The successful candidate reports to the Town Manager and will work on a wide variety of strategic priorities, employee-focused initiatives and manage high-level projects that require Town-wide coordination. The Assistant Town Manager is expected to provide leadership and direction to internal service departments including Finance, Information Technology, Recreation, and Human Resources. However, final responsibilities may be adjusted depending upon the successful candidate’s education, experience, and strengths.

The Town Manager has identified several organizational challenges, issues and opportunities, including:

  • Adapting and managing in a COVID and post-COVID environment. • Attracting and retaining a quality workforce.
  • Building strong internal policies and practices in workforce planning and management.
  • Collaborating with and understanding the various perspectives of community stakeholders and interest groups to balance aspirations with overall Town needs and resources.
  • Enhancing internal working relationships and creating collaborative working relationships across Town departments.
  • Supporting staff’s professional development and modelling a strong work ethic and commitment to the community.

Salary Information: $90,000-$103,146
