Department: Finance

Responsible To: Finance Director

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Finance Director, assists in the preparation and maintenance of the City’s financial records and accounts. The position assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements, bank account reconciliation, general ledger maintenance, and other general financial duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for updating and maintaining accurate entries into the City’s general ledger accounting software.
  • Records and balances all cash receipts.
  • Records and balances all expenditures.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of entries into the accounting software system.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly balance sheets and income statements.
  • Verifies bank account debits and credits in correspondence with collecting and retaining supporting finance transaction documentation.
  • Supports Finance Director in gathering and providing outside auditors with financial information and records during the City’s annual financial audit.
  • Assist in filing required forms and reports with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of acceptable fund accounting practices and principles.
  • Serves as backup to other finance staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in basic math and algebra.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting practices and principles.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with the ability to work across all levels of City officials, employees, agencies, organizations, and the general public.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting software programs with the ability to learn and utilize the City’s financial accounting software programs.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of general accounting experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of local government and fund accounting practices and principles is a plus.

Certifications: None

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs occasionally.
  • Walking, twisting, stooping, and bending on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to sit at a workstation for extending periods of time.

Salary Information: $42,500 - $56,521 annually
