Position Title:  Communications & Marketing Manager

Reports to:  Director of Public Affairs

Classification:  Exempt

 

Position Summary: The Communications & Marketing Manager provides a wide range of support to the Director of Public Affairs including, but not limited to writing, editing, digital content management (website and social media) and strategy, managing general internal and external communications, photography, video and graphic design.

 

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Affairs. This is sedentary to light work requiring limited physical effort and position requires moderate to extensive travel. Manual dexterity to operate standard office, data entry and word processing equipment is required.

 

  • Plans, manages and implements KLC’s general communications and marketing programs and services.
  • Develop internal and external communication strategies and tactics in support of business objectives that reflect the company’s mission, values, brand and priorities.
  • Works with all departments, enterprise programs, and affiliate organizations to assist with their communications, marketing and publications needs.
  • Create, edit and coordinate communication deliverables such as scripts, press releases, talking points, newsletters, fact sheets, digital and social media content, speeches, presentations, letters, and internal communications.
  • Works in conjunction with governmental affairs communications for optimized timing on social media, news and events.
  • Assists with developing the quarterly City magazine.
  • Explores new opportunities and the latest trends to enhance communications and marketing.
  • Oversees all production and photography services.
  • Assists with media contacts in conjunction with the Director of Public Affairs.
  • Manages the KLC website.
  • Participates in the coordination of educational/outreach campaigns to inform the public about municipal government and municipal government issues.
  • Assists with communications and marketing for annual conference, events and training.
  • Manages general communications staff.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to flexibly manage multiple projects with competing priorities and shifting timeframes; operate independently and strategically with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines; skilled storyteller who communicates in concise, compelling and persuasive ways across formats - formal and informal, written and verbal; experience leading and executing communications strategies; applied knowledge working with online communications, social media and content management; proficient in Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and knowledge of PR/Social Media tools; strong organizational and project management skills; thorough knowledge of modern principles, practices and techniques of professional communications, targeting and marketing; working knowledge of the design, layout and printing of communications material; thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and techniques of communication development; knowledge of League programs and services; knowledge and ability relating to website management; knowledge of interviewing, writing, layout and editing techniques; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, elected officials, member agencies and the general public; and skilled use of photographic and video equipment.

 

Education and Experience:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of job-related experience.

 

Special Requirements:  Possession of an appropriate driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
