City Government of the Year-Recognizes quality governance in action, whether it be a policy, program or project that has transformed your city in a big or small way for the better. This award celebrates cities and allows KLC member cities of all sizes to be inspired by, learn from and replicate successes.

Eligibility & Information

  • Elected officials and employees from KLC member cities are eligible.
  • Nominees must be working in their city capacity on the date of nomination.
  • Projects/policy/program must be associated with a current KLC member city.
  • Winners will be acknowledged during the 2019 KLC Conference & Expo, September 24-27, in Covington.

Recognition for the winners in their hometown and beyond! 

  • KLC executive staff will present the award in the winners’ home cities during a city council/commission meeting or another event. 
  • KLC will work with the winners and city staff to determine the best venue to allow the entire city, family, friends and community,as well as local media, to participate in the award presentation.
  • KLC will recognize winners on social media, online and at upcoming KLC events. 
  • Winners will be recognized in KLC publications and local and statewide media (including customized releases for local media).KLC will donate $1,000 to the winning city and a qualified charity of the individual winners’ choice. (see official rules under "learn more" links above).
