The Kentucky Brownfield Program is accepting applications for cleanup grant funding through the Cleaner Commonwealth Fund (CCF). The program currently has $250,000 in competitive grant funding. Communities can apply for up to $125,000 for the remediation of hazardous substances, petroleum, asbestos-containing materials, and/or lead-based paint at eligible sites.
Cities, 501(c)3 nonprofits, and quasi-governmental agencies can apply. For a site to be eligible, the applicant must own the property and have performed All Appropriate Inquiries (Phase I Assessment) within the six-month period before the purchase of the property and met bona fide prospective purchaser guidelines. There are exceptions for some cases of involuntary acquisition. If the cleanup project involves hazardous substances or petroleum, then a Phase II Assessment must also be completed at the time of application.
Interested cities must apply electronically by Dec. 30, 2023.
