In 1927, a group of dreamers decided it was time to give city governments a unified voice. They met to discuss creating something called the Kentucky Municipal League to advocate for the interests of cities at the state and federal levels of government. In doing so, they gave birth to today’s Kentucky League of Cities (KLC), one of the nation’s largest and most effective such organizations.
For nearly a century, the Kentucky League of Cities has served municipalities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky through advocacy and unity, adding training and financial services at a later date. In 1978 KLC developed innovative insurance programs, creating the state’s first workers’ compensation group self-insured program. Collectively these programs made the League a very special organization tailored to the unique needs of local governments.
