Kentucky cities can apply for Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Office of Local Programs. The application cycle begins on May 1, 2024, and ends at the close of business on June 14, 2024.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provides TAP funding for projects such as on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility, community improvement activities, environmental mitigation, and safe routes to school projects. City officials can find a list of eligible project categories in the FHWA Transportation Alternatives Guidance.
Any local public agency with an open TAP project that needs additional funding should apply for additional funds during this cycle. TAP project administration must follow the KYTC Local Public Agency Guide.
The application and instructions are available on the Office of Local Programs Transportation Alternatives Program website. Completed applications or any questions related to the application process should be emailed to the Office of Local Programs at kytc.olp@ky.gov.
