A powerful band of storms is moving into Kentucky, and city officials should take immediate precautions. WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey tells KLC the severe weather could bring potential tornadoes and flash flooding when it moves into the state Wednesday night. The tornado threat is especially high in Western Kentucky. However, all areas of the state will experience high winds and torrential rain, with some locations forecasted to receive between 10 and 15 inches of rainfall.
The Kentucky League of Cities is ready to assist members in preparing for and responding to this severe weather event. We strongly encourage city officials to download the KLC Disaster Preparedness Handbook now and take these proactive measures to mitigate potential losses.
Additionally, city officials should review and download relevant resources from Kentucky Emergency Management to enhance preparedness. We have listed several key documents below that can help guide your response efforts. You can also get weather information from the National Weather Service.
KLC Insurance members should report any claims or damage to Collins and Company as soon as possible via the KLC portal. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact your KLC marketing agent.
Stay safe, remain vigilant, and take every precaution to protect yourself, your city, and its residents.
