19 Confirmed Dead Following Tornadoes, Flooding

Severe weather hit Kentucky this weekend, leaving 19 people confirmed dead in the London, Somerset, and Russell Springs areas. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared an emergency on Friday ahead of the storms.

The City of Somerset, the City of London, and seven counties declared emergencies Saturday morning following the storms. On Sunday, the National Weather Service confirmed that the London area was hit hardest with confirmed EF3 damage. Somerset and Russell Springs area storms were confirmed to have damage ranging from EF2 to EF3.

More than 24 state roads were closed due to previous slides and flooding, debris, and downed power lines. The latest road closure status can be seen on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet website.
