Regular Session Committee Schedule Set

The committee schedule for the upcoming Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly has been finalized, marking an important milestone as lawmakers prepare to convene in Frankfort. The Regular Session of the General Assembly begins Tuesday, Jan. 7. Committees are often the first place to debate and advance legislation.

For city officials, two committees are especially important to watch: the House Local Government Committee and the Senate State and Local Government Committee. Historically, the majority of legislation that directly impacts city authority, operations, revenues, and responsibilities is heard in these two committees before moving forward in the legislative process.

KLC’s Government Affairs team will closely monitor committee meetings, track legislation, and advocate on behalf of cities throughout the session. Staff will provide timely updates, alerts, and analysis as bills move through committees and advance toward final consideration. Learn more about how to stay informed and track bills here.

City officials and stakeholders can view the official committee meeting schedule here.

To help members better understand how legislation moves from introduction to law, KLC also encourages city leaders to review this overview of how a bill becomes law in Kentucky. You will also get a complete wrap-up of the upcoming session in Issue 5 of Kentucky City magazine, due in mailboxes next month.

In addition, cities can stay informed about KLC’s priorities for the session by reviewing the KLC Legislative Agenda, which outlines the KLC Board of Directors' position on issues that matter most to Kentucky cities.

As the session gets underway, KLC remains committed to keeping cities informed, engaged, and represented at the Capitol. City officials are encouraged to stay connected as committees begin meeting and legislation starts moving through the process. We also encourage you to register now and plan to attend City Day/City Night in February.
