The Manager of Business Attraction is responsible for recruiting new businesses to the City of Covington. The position is also responsible for maintaining and establishing relationships with local, regional and state partners, site selection consultants, real estate brokers, and corporations interested in the city. The Manager of Business Attraction will work with companies and the city’s Economic Development Team throughout the process of lead identification, site selection and closing the deal resulting in new job creation for the city.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Assist with strategic marketing of the community for investment to local, regional, state and national business and site selection targets. 2. Recruit new target businesses (as defined in the City’s Economic Development Strategy) to the city. 3. Follow up with business leads generated by others. 4. Coordinate business services, incentives and regulatory requirements for clients. 5. Serve as a point of contact for new businesses interested in the city and work as a liaison with local partners and the real estate community to assist the client in identifying a new location in Covington. 6. Assist companies in identifying potential incentives for new locations, employee training, and more. 7. Maintain and cultivate relationships with key site selection consultants, state economic development partners, real estate brokers, developers, and other industry partners. 8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date project and client interaction within the Salesforce database. 9. Assist, as assigned, with implementation of the City’s Economic Development Strategy (available for review on the City’s website). 10. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

At least three years of experience in economic development or related field. 11. Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and other software. 12. Must have strong attention to detail and excellent organization skills. 13. Must be a self-starter, motivated, well-organized, results-oriented, and willing to learn new skills. 14. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

SUPERVISORY: This position may require supervision of an intern.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 1. Bachelor’s degree in a related economic development or business field from an accredited college or university, preferred, or any combination of training and experience which meet the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities. 2. At least three years of experience in economic development or related field.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Evening, weekend or hours adjustments may be required as job duties demand. Some day and overnight travel may be required from time to time. Salary Information: $55,000-$63,000
