Under general administrative direction, coordinate and design the technology infrastructure of the City and ensure system and network integration of various departments; control of different sites to central database systems; provide network and systems security throughout the enterprise; handles all the computer and network needs of various departments; perform related work as required.

  • Maintains network hardware and software.
  • Monitors network to ensure availability to all system users.
  • Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Works with City Manager to plan and coordinate IT activities and budget.
  • Supervises IT support staff in maintaining desktops and servers.
  • Oversees completion of GIS services for departments as needed.
  • Assists City Clerk with Open Records Requests and ensures compliance.
  • Assists departments with specialized software necessary for their work.
  • Troubleshoots and designs network systems and authorizes technology purchases for other departments.
  • Supervises and evaluates performance and productivity of IT department staff and makes sure high level of support is provided. Advises administration on future directions of technology deployment to the City.
  • Maintains the networked devices and ensures they are operating in top condition.
  • Conducts research, testing and evaluates operating systems, applications, network and security devices and applications, and other technology related equipment.
  • Maintains all Network firewalls, routers, security appliances, and switches.
  • Completes IT projects within specified timeframes and budget.
  • Creates written departmental SOPs and procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate operational documentation is maintained.
  • Ensures that hardware is inventoried and replaced per established schedule. 
  • Other IT duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Ability to manage and maintain a complex network environment.
  • Must be competent with Cisco routers, firewalls, and switching technology.
  • Must be able to administer Microsoft Server environments in physical and virtual settings.
  • Must be proficient in GIS and administering GIS servers and databases in an enterprise environment.
  • Must be capable of providing security to an enterprise environment and report and resolve potential threats.
  • Must manage and maintain security appliances to properly respond to threats.
  • Must have the ability to manage and maintain a Google Enterprise environment as well as Microsoft 365.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day 7 days a week and report in a timely manner to ensure E911 compliance.
  • Must learn and deploy department specific software.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Four years of Enterprise IT management required.
  • Preferred experience should include:  
  • Microsoft system and network administration,
  • Cisco network devices administration,
  • Wireless design, implementation and administration,
  • Network and System security design and administration,
  • Database Management System Design and Administration with emphasis on Microsoft database technologies and the open source database system,
  • Web development and administration,
  • Internet devices administration, and
  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems) design and administration.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field preferred. Windows Server and CCNA or higher-level networking certifications are preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, regardless of time and weather conditions; work including sitting, standing, stooping, lifting of heavy equipment, walking, using ladders and stairs in confined spaces and occasionally lifting objects of more than 50 pounds.  Moderate exposure to noise, machinery, and its moving parts.  May be exposed to dust, fumes, chemicals and toxic substances. Salary Information: $95,000-$104,453
