The Shelbyville Police Department is accepting applications for a part-time evidence/property room custodian.
General Duties: This position serves under the police sergeant and/or the police major. Working hours will not extend past 24 hours in a week.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: maintaining the evidence room by keeping it stocked with processing equipment and ensuring the equipment is serviceable; maintaining a clean and organized property room; protecting evidence/property room from damage, deterioration, or theft; processing evidence and entering information on all items into evidence/property room computer; transporting evidence to and from appropriate laboratory processing facilities as needed; maintaining records on recovered property and evidence, demonstrating continuous control of property and evidence from entry into the system until its final disposition; coordinating the dissemination of evidence to the appropriate officer when evidence reports are received from the crime lab; generating a quarterly form letter to each officer who has submitted evidence to determine if the case has been adjudicated; dispositioning evidence to authorized persons; obtaining orders from the court system to destroy or assign evidence or property once a case has been adjudicated; and removing items from the evidence/property room as directed to maintain adequate storage room for incoming items.
Education and Experience Qualifications: High school diploma or General Educational Development certificate (GED). Experience and knowledge of police practices.
Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Must be bondable. Will be required to pass a background check that includes a polygraph before hire. Periodic, unannounced drug tests will also be conducted.
Salary Information: $18.30 - $21.95/hour based on experience.
