GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the posting of all property tax payment records
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating delinquent property tax records
  • Responsible for posting, filing, and tracking of insurance premium tax payments
  • Assists in the issuance and maintenance of various taxes, licenses, and permits required by the city
  • Assists in record keeping and collection of property taxes, occupational taxes, business licenses, and other taxes and fees required by the city
  • Responsible for maintaining a cash drawer
  • Responsible for preparing and making deposits
  • Assist with collection of licenses, permits, and fees required by the city
  • Responsible for the accurate filing, storage, maintenance, and destruction of financial records of the Finance Department
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of office supplies for the administration and planning departments
  • Insures ordinance compliance of license requirement of commercial and residential rental licenses
  • Department liason to the city safety director (fire chief)
  • Assists with telephone and walk-in customers of city hall
  • Assists in the performance of other department duties as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED preferably supplemented by instruction and experience in office practices and computer usage.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of regulations, practices and procedures in the preparation, maintenance and retention of financial records for the city. Knowledge of principles and practices of fiscal administration and accounting with some background in the usage of Excel. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Must be able to adapt to computer software applications. Some knowledge of local government operations to include word processing and spreadsheet applications. Must be able to type with reasonable speed and accuracy. Must possess the ability to deal courteously but firmly with the public, and to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with city officers, employees, and the general public. Also must possess the physical ability to squat, stand, and sit for long periods of time. Climb stairs, bend over, lift and carry items 25 pounds or less. Use a computer with a monitor. Salary Information: "starting salary of $40,860 ($19.64/hr) but could be higher with related background experience"
