Kentucky cities can apply for funding to prepare for and reduce the risk of wildfires through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program. The program was established from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
The program focuses on projects to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). Cities with a CWPP in place older than 10 years can use the grant for updates. Projects described in existing CWPPs are also eligible.
The Kentucky Division of Forestry is available to facilitate cities through CWPP assistance, informational workshops, and application processing. Priority will be given to cities with high wildfire risk potential, low-income communities, or those recently impacted by a natural disaster.
City officials needing assistance can contact Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Kessley Baker or call 606.260.5651. Visit the Kentucky Division of Forestry website for more information.
