When cities experience a disaster, tree and debris removal is one of the biggest challenges they will face. The Kentucky Division of Forestry is providing a workshop to educate municipalities on the steps to prepare for cleanup.
The workshop will build awareness of the processes, contracts, and coordination needed to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters affecting forests. It will also highlight key points from the newly developed storm planning guide and provide tips from those who have experienced storms and faced their aftermath.
Elected officials, city managers, public works, and parks and recreation staff are encouraged to attend the Managing Tree Canopies for Disaster workshop on Friday, Jan. 18, 2024, at McConnell Springs Park in Lexington. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. EST. The cost is $20, and lunch is provided.
