Dixon named Fire Chief of the Year

The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) honored Henderson Fire Chief Josh Dixon as the 2025 Career Fire Chief of the Year at the Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs annual conference in Bowling Green on Wednesday.

With 18 years at the Henderson Fire Department, Dixon has excelled in nearly every role — from firefighter and engineer to lieutenant, division chief of investigation, and fire marshal. Each position has benefited from his dedication and skill.

Under Dixon’s guidance, the Henderson Fire Department has grown with the addition of a deputy chief of operations, a division chief of training, and a division chief of investigations and inspections. The department has implemented a new training structure that includes a physical agility test and emphasizes the core values of honor, integrity, and excellence.

“We are proud to recognize Chief Josh Dixon as the Fire Chief of the Year, honoring his exceptional leadership, dedication, and commitment to protecting his community and advancing the fire service,” KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney said.

The Henderson Fire Department praised Dixon on its Facebook page, stating, “In his 18 years of service, Chief Dixon has led by example, constantly advocating for training, safety, innovation, and excellence within our department and beyond. Under his leadership, we've grown stronger, more unified, and better equipped to serve our community every day.”
