Limited Duration Childcare for First Responders

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) issued a directive on March 19, 2020, authorizing healthcare entities to partner with local YMCAs to provide limited duration childcare for medical personnel, first responders, corrections officers, and Department for Community Based Services workers.

Limited duration childcare is a narrowly defined exception to Governor Andy Beshear’s directive that childcare centers close by Friday, March 20, 2020, in response to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 public health emergency.

Qualified employees must provide information on their employer’s letterhead including the employee’s identifying information, position with the employer, location of the employee’s work station, name and dates of birth of the children who will be left at the facility, and contact information for the employee’s human resources department. Only children 12 years of age and younger are eligible.
