KLC is excited to feature Dr. William Turner in the first installment of our Kentucky Reflections series. Dr. Turner will discuss and answer your questions about his newest book, The Harlan Renaissance, an intimate remembrance of kinship and community in eastern Kentucky’s coal towns and the vibrant Black life that existed there during coal’s final postwar boom years.
The Harlan Renaissance is available at several Kentucky libraries and local bookstores. It can also be ordered from Bookshop.org, which supports independent bookstores; or on Amazon as an eBook or in print.
“Whether we like to admit it or not, whether we know it or not, our destinies are really intertwined. No people, particularly in the United States, should think that their stories are more important than somebody else’s stories, or to disregard the stories of other people. Those [stories] are so important in terms of our children and our grandchildren avoiding the mistakes that we have made.” – Dr. William H. Turner
Participation is intended for KLC members and entities affiliated with KLC, such as associations and cornerstone partners.
