Picture this - by the end of a conversation with someone, you’ve agreed to do something you absolutely do not want to do. Not only did you say “yes,” but you said it while nodding and smiling enthusiastically! Later you describe the frustrating situation to your friend, explaining that you were trying to be nice (or a good city official) and felt like you couldn’t say no without coming across as unkind or mean.
Join this session as we learn about and discuss different types of people pleasing as well as how to catch yourself before you do it, to forgive yourself if you already have, and to use alternatives that actually feel good.
The facilitator will be Janelle McNeal, Ph.D. of True North Counseling & Development[JM1] . Dr. McNeal specializes in helping high-achieving entrepreneurial and professional women successfully navigate this issue and other topics in the KLC Women’s Lunchtime Series. You will leave with new tools and the support and solidarity of your KLC and city official colleagues.
Credit: Participants receive one hour of KLC City Officials Training Center (COTC) credit and/or House Bill 119 credit.
