Elected Leaders Academy
Applications for the 2025 Class are now open to current Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) members holding elected positions within city government. Application Deadline is January 31, 2025Scope
The goal of the Elected Leaders Academy is to provide elected city officials with an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and collaborate with fellow city leaders.
Teaching Methods
- Formal Instruction - Regular interactive classroom instruction and suggested readings on the art and science of leadership.
- Experience - Learn through case studies, participants sharing personal experiences and challenges, and guest speakers.
- Commitment and Mentorship - Graduates have an expectation to continue to help one another after completing the program. Graduates could serve as future cohort mentors.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a KLC member.
- Applicant must currently be serving in an elected city government role.
- Applicant must commit to attending 80% of planned events/meetings.
- Application must be completed by January 31, 2025.
- Please note that all applicants may not be selected for the 2025 class and may be deferred to a subsequent class.
- In the event that a chosen applicant is not able to commit to the required 80% attendance, an alternate will be chosen to fill the spot.
Format
Three overnight retreats (one night each) are scheduled throughout the state.
Tentative Schedule
- December – January 2025: Application Period Open
- February: Class Selection
- March 11 & 12: Opening Week Retreat : Developing Yourself as a Leader
- April: Leading Your Team
- May: Leading Your Community
Fee & Accommodations
The registration fee for Elected Leaders Academy is $250. Please note that participants are responsible for securing and covering the cost of their own overnight accommodation. Each session includes one lunch and an evening reception. Dinner will be on your own.
