The International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) recognized KLC Director of Municipal Law Morgain Patterson as its 2022 Outstanding State League Counsel. IMLA is a non-profit organization that serves local government attorneys. The award honors an attorney whose value and skill are critical to the League and its members.
As director of municipal law, Morgain ensures KLC members stay updated on laws impacting cities and municipal organizations. Her department fields over 4,000 questions each year, conducts dozens of city-specific trainings for member cities, provides sample ordinances, publishes the KLC City Officials Legal Handbook, drafts tailored personnel policies for member cities, manages the KLC Certified City of Ethics Program, and engages in various other forms of training and legal education.
Morgain has more than 20 years of experience in government law and has been with KLC since 2017. KLC Executive Director|CEO James D. Chaney thanked Morgain for her commitment to cities. “Anyone who has worked with Morgain knows she is dedicated to helping municipal governments in whatever way possible,” he said. “She is an asset to the League and our members, and I congratulate her on this award.”
“I am honored that my city attorney colleagues nominated me for this award and that the IMLA awards committee found me deserving,” Morgain responded. “My goal is to exhibit the spirit of the award by providing the highest level of services to our member cities along with all of the municipal law staff.”
IMLA representatives presented Morgain with the award at the association’s annual conference in Portland, Oregon.
