Summer Book Selection: "The Power of 10%...How Small Changes Can Make a BIG Difference"
by Eric Harvey and Michelle Sedas

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” Anne Frank

KLC’s 2023 summer book club selection is easy, breezy, and short on pages but will provide for deep discussion. It is a perfect summer read for busy KLC members and a tool to use with city staff and other teams. There is no charge to participate.

“The Power of 10%...How Small Changes Can Make a BIG Difference”

Leaders and successful people make an extra effort every day, even when they don’t feel like it, even when they don’t like the person across the table, and even when things are out of control.

This book explains how the choices we make, the words we say, and the actions we take impact not only our lives but also the lives of those around us. Regardless of your job, family, volunteer, or personal roles, when you aim to improve yourself, your changes will inevitably inspire others to improve. Within our cities and other organizations, it is clear that “no man (or woman) is an island.” In this book, you will see the potential in any given moment, realize how small things and key attitude changes really do matter, and have the confidence to unleash the 10% rule within the work environment and in all you do.

The book club discussion will focus on how applying 10% more effort in life and leadership can make a big difference. Participants will discuss how to use the book with employees, teams, and groups and will be encouraged to tell their own stories or those of others they admire, including city officials and employees living by the 10% principle.

“Creativity is the ability to see relationships where none exist.” Thomas Disch

The book is reasonably priced in both paperback and Kindle.
