The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund, a nonprofit organization, has opened an application opportunity for municipalities and counties to participate in a financial training program. The program is intended to help local governments counsel members of their communities. The program’s goal is to help American households gain control of their financial situation and plan for their futures. There will be an informational webinar about the program on Sept. 12, 2023, from 3-4 p.m. EST.
The Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) Academy is a new opportunity for local governments to learn about the key building blocks of bringing the FEC model of integrated, professional, one-on-one financial counseling as a free public service to their communities, including through leveraging federal funding streams like the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
The FEC Academy process will guide cities through each planning step to launch the model over approximately six months to one year, including significant CFE Fund technical assistance, access to planning resources and information, and participation in a robust learning community. Upon completion of the FEC Academy, partners will be equipped to put the building blocks in place to launch the Financial Empowerment Center initiative in their communities and apply for potential implementation matching grant funds.
The CFE Fund team will provide FEC Academy participants with technical assistance to support partners on a range of planning activities leading to the development of the implementation proposal.
