The Kentucky League of Cities released a new publication to help cities and organizations that serve cities respond to and prepare for any disaster. The past several years have seen deadly flooding, tornadoes, storms, and other public disasters. City officials are better able to respond and help constituents promptly when an action plan is in place. The KLC Disaster Preparedness & Response Handbook provides recommendations and guidelines for various essential public offices and services.
A committee of KLC staff and city officials developed the handbook. KLC Immediate Past President and Southgate Mayor Jim Hamberg created the committee in 2022. It included Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan, Jenkins Mayor Todd DePriest, Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton, Louisa Mayor Harold Slone, Middletown Commissioner Ron Wolf, Mayfield Fire Chief Jeremy Creason, Bowling Green City Attorney Hillary Hightower, and many KLC directors and employees.
KLC designed the handbook to be a rip-and-run publication with position-specific sections that city officials can print individually. The entire book is also available online.
As always, KLC’s goal in creating the handbook is to help the city officials who serve their communities daily.
