Composting/Recycling Grant Application Now Open

Cities can apply for Commonwealth of Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) Division of Waste Management Kentucky Pride Fund grants for programs and activities that help to reduce waste and encourage recycling. Funding is intended to promote the development of infrastructure for composting and recycling programs, reduce solid waste disposal, and improve household hazardous waste management.

Composting Grant: To assist eligible applicants in achieving a successful program to divert materials from landfills to composting, reusing, or other recycling options. Eligible expenditures include the following:

  • Forklifts
  • Bucket loaders, skid steer loaders
  • Scales
  • Stackable concrete barrier blocks
  • Windrow Compost Turners
  • Composting bins and tumblers
  • Compost shredder/grinder
  • Electric utility installation/connections [not applicable for property rented/leased from a private entity] necessary for operating recycling processing equipment (i.e., 3 phase 220/460-volt power for balers, densifiers, conveyors, etc.)
  • Advertising for composting participation and regular reporting in local/regional media, signs, displays, and banners for recycling facilities, and recycling educational materials for school programs

Household Hazardous Waste Management Grant: To leverage limited funds into an efficient and cost-effective one-day management event collecting household hazardous waste and promoting a household hazardous waste public education program.

Recycling Grant: To leverage limited funds into efficient and cost-effective projects to help Kentuckians develop an integrated recycling infrastructure and public education program. Eligible expenditures include the following:

  • Vertical and horizontal balers producing bales of 60” in length (minimum) weighing at least 800 lbs. of recyclable materials, i.e., cardboard (OCC)
  • Conveyors
  • Forklifts – pneumatic tires only
  • Bucket loaders, skid steer loaders
  • Scales
  • Manual pallet jacks
  • Portable dock plates and forklift ramps
  • Collection “drop-off” trailers
  • Recycling dumpsters (i.e., “coffin” roll-off containers)
  • Classroom recycling containers in schools, up to 25% of grant request
