The Kentucky Department of Insurance (DOI) is reminding cities that all new Local Government Premium Tax ordinances must be filed with the state 100 days prior to the start of the new fiscal year. That means cities must submit the form 100 days before July 1, 2024. DOI must update the upcoming fiscal year tax schedule and other resources before the ordinance takes effect.
DOI notifies Kentucky insurance companies about local government fees, taxes, and the required rate.
Cities can find updated tax schedules, the 2023-2024 Local Government Premium Tax bulletin, and other resources on the DOI website.
Cities with questions about Local Government Premium Tax ordinances can contact DOI Insurance Program Manager John Hord at 502.564.1649.
