Kentucky cities have experienced unprecedented storms in recent years. Tornadoes ravaged several communities in December 2021, and flooding left widespread damage in the summer of 2022.
The storms also damaged irreplaceable cultural and historical treasures, exposing the vulnerability of arts and culture in Kentucky. To help communities prepare and protect some of their valuable cultural assets, the University of Kentucky’s Department of Arts Administration is hosting the state’s inaugural Arts Disaster & Crisis Preparedness Conference on Sept. 6.
The conference will facilitate the exchange of best practices in preparation for emergencies and natural disasters within the arts and culture sector. Attendees will receive practical tools, resources, and knowledge to plan for their organizations and workspaces. The conference will also serve as the official launch of the Kentucky Heritage Emergency Response Network (KHERN).
