The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) welcomed new leadership during the 2024 KLC Conference & Expo in Lexington. The League swore in a new president, first vice president, and second vice president. The ceremony highlighted the dedication and leadership of city officials from across Kentucky.
Benton Mayor Rita Dotson will serve as KLC president for the next year, taking the reins from Auburn Mayor Mike Hughes, who will now function as the immediate past president. Known for her hands-on leadership and innovative ideas, Mayor Dotson promises to advocate for cities and KLC's mission.
"I'm honored to serve as the new KLC President and excited to work alongside city leaders across Kentucky," said Dotson. "Together, we can continue to strengthen our communities, share innovative ideas, and make a lasting impact on our cities. I look forward to representing the needs of our members and ensuring KLC remains a strong voice for cities at the state and national levels."
Beaver Dam Mayor Paul Sandefur took the oath as the new first vice president. Pineville Mayor Scott Madon moved into a leadership role as KLC's new second vice president.
KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney expressed his excitement for the new leadership team: "We're thrilled to welcome Mayor Dotson, Mayor Sandefur, and Mayor Madon into their new roles. Each of them brings unique strengths and experiences that will be invaluable as we continue advocating for the success and progress of Kentucky's cities. I look forward to working closely with them to build on the incredible momentum of this past year."
Outgoing President Auburn Mayor Mike Hughes passed the gavel to Mayor Dotson in a heartfelt ceremony Thursday night, capping off a successful term of service. KLC thanks Mayor Hughes for his exceptional leadership and commitment to Kentucky cities.
