The National League of Cities (NLC) elected Louisville Metro Councilmember Kevin Kramer its second vice president during a meeting on Saturday at its yearly City Summit.
Kramer has served as a member of the Louisville Metro Council since 2002 and was elected Metro Council president in 2006. In 2024, he was appointed chair of the National League of Cities Information Technology and Communications Committee. He is also a member of the NLC steering committee for its board of directors.
"As a member of the National League of Cities, I strongly believe in its mission and the crucial role it plays in improving the lives of millions. Our mission aligns with each of the state alliances, and it is thanks to the support from the Kentucky League of Cities that I was able to receive the necessary backing to become second vice president of the National League of Cities and a future president of the group in 2027,” Kramer said. “I aim to use this position to advocate for issues important to KLC members and am hopeful that my participation in this organization will help grow our membership and our advocacy for bipartisan solutions to some of our nation’s biggest policy challenges."
Kentucky League of Cities Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney said Kramer’s election to the NLC position is an important step that will benefit Kentucky cities as well as those in other states.
“Councilmember Kevin Kramer has been a dedicated public servant to his city for more than two decades. He has also worked for cities across the commonwealth through his previous service with the National League of Cities and will continue to do so as NLC’s second vice president,” Chaney said. “Kentucky cities are fortunate to have him represent them on a national level.”
The National League of Cities is the voice of America’s cities, towns, and villages, representing more than 200 million people across the country. NLC works to strengthen local leadership, influence federal policy, and drive innovative solutions.
