Board Nominations Open!

The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) is seeking nominations for several key board positions. These boards play a vital role in shaping policies and managing programs that impact cities across Kentucky. If you’re passionate about improving your community, this is your chance to lead and make a difference.

Open Positions and Details

  1. Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KRS 224A.030)
    1. Focus: Oversees infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater systems, and assists local governments in managing these systems.
    2. Composition: 11 members, including six at-large members appointed by the governor. KLC submits nominees for two members, one of whom must represent a municipal utility.
    3. Term: Four years.
    4. Compensation: Unpaid but reimbursed for reasonable expenses.
    5. Meetings: No statutory meeting schedule; meetings are called as needed.
  2. Kentucky Transportation Center Advisory Board (KRS 177.375)
    1. Focus: Advises on transportation policy and research, including infrastructure improvements and technical assistance.
    2. Composition: Nine members, including three ex-officio members and others appointed by the governor, one of whom is nominated by KLC.
    3. Term: Two years.
    4. Compensation: Unpaid but reimbursed for reasonable expenses from the Center’s budget.
    5. Meetings: At least semiannual; may meet more frequently as needed.
  3. State Libraries, Archives, and Records Commission (KRS 171.420)
    1. Focus: Advises on library development, records management, and public library standards; reviews retention and destruction schedules for records.
    2. Composition: 17 members, including four citizen members appointed by the governor, one of whom is nominated by KLC.
    3. Term: Three years.
    4. Compensation: Unpaid, with reimbursement for actual expenses.
    5. Meetings: At least four times per year, usually in Frankfort.
  4. Waste Tire Working Group (KRS 224.50-855)
    1. Focus: Advises on waste tire disposal and recycling programs, including grants and tire-derived fuel initiatives.
    2. Composition: Eight members, including one mayor appointed by the governor from KLC’s nominees.
    3. Term: Three years, with eligibility for reappointment.
    4. Compensation: Travel expenses reimbursed; no salary.
    5. Meetings: At least twice per year or more frequently as needed.
  5. Kentucky Wireless Interoperability Executive Committee (KRS 42.738)
    1. Focus: Guides wireless communication strategies for public safety and reviews local government project plans.
    2. Composition: 20 members, including one municipal government representative appointed by the governor from KLC’s nominees.
    3. Term: Two years.
    4. Compensation: Unpaid; no travel reimbursement.
    5. Meetings: Quarterly or as needed.
  6. County Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees (KRS 78.782)
    1. Focus: Manages and invests retirement system funds for local government employees.
    2. Composition: Nine trustees, including two representatives appointed by the governor from KLC’s nominees (1 with retirement experience, 1 with investment experience).
    3. Term: Four years, with a limit of three consecutive terms.
    4. Compensation: $80 per diem for official duties, plus reimbursement for expenses.
    5. Meetings: At least quarterly, with additional meetings as needed.
  7. Geographic Information Advisory Council (KRS 42.740)
    1. Focus: Advises on geographic information system (GIS), recommending policies to help state and local governments improve public administration through efficient GIS use, promotes coordination to reduce redundancy, and ensures the GIS clearinghouse serves all state agencies effectively.
    2. Composition: 25 members and one legislative liaison, all experienced in GIS technology and capable of influencing their organizations' policies, including one member appointed by the governor from nominees submitted by the president of the Kentucky League of Cities.
    3. Term: Four years.
    4. Compensation: Unpaid.
    5. Meetings: No statutory meeting schedule.
