Kentucky Waste Tire Working Group Seeks Members

Kentucky’s beautiful landscape needs to be protected, and that includes keeping trash like old tires out of unauthorized landfills. In 2011, the Kentucky General Assembly passed House Bill 433 to establish the Waste Tire Working Group (WTWG) to ensure tires are disposed of properly by distributing information sheets and tracking tires as they are disposed of.

The KWTW includes eight members, including one Kentucky mayor, one county judge/executive, and one representative of private industry engaged in retail tire sales. The governor appoints these three members. The mayoral member is appointed from nominees provided by the Kentucky League of Cities.

Terms are three years with the eligibility for reappointment. Travel expenses are reimbursed but there is no salary. The committee meets twice per year, with additional meetings as needed.
