Class Characteristics: Under general direction, performs short and long term planning involving research, analysis, and administration of planning, zoning, historic preservation and other development controls; conducts research related to and prepares applications for federal, state and local grants. General Duties and Responsibilities: Evaluates applications and prepares staff reports for various permits, amendments, appeals, or other applicable programs/regulations. Presents information to the Board of Zoning Adjustment, Planning Commission, or other groups. Answers inquiries regarding zoning and subdivision ordinance requirements. Researches planning-related issues and prepares reports with findings and recommendations. Reviews building permits and site plans for compliance. Inspects property for compliance with approved plans and property maintenance code. Prepares correspondence in response to requests for information and to compel compliance with ordinances. Assists with community development activities. Researches information related to federal, state, and local grants. Prepares applications for federal state and local grants. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience: Planner I: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or closely related field and two (2) years related work experience preferred. Planner II: Master’s degree in urban planning or closely related field and five (5) years related work experience required. Certification/Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment in this class. Availability: Must be able to attend meetings during evenings and weekends. Overtime Provision: Exempt.

Salary Information: Min. beginning salary per grade: $42,689/yr. / $52,266/yr.
