The City of Prospect is now accepting applications for the position of City Clerk. This position reports to the Mayor performing a variety of complex administrative tasks focused not only on managing the city’s records but also on ensuring the continued smooth operations of City Hall and the city at large.
This is a highly responsible administrative position requiring considerable experience, dexterity, independence, initiative, collaborative ability, and project management. It depends on a thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment; proficiency with the English language, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to listen, discern, comprehend, and record and accurately summarize statements and activities at public meetings.
The successful candidate must be able to work in a complex, fast-paced environment and have the ability to function both independently and as a team player. Must be able to establish and maintain healthy and effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field preparatory to the responsibilities of the position, certification from a state municipal clerks’ association and be either a CMC or MMC with active membership in the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, and have at least 3-5 years experience as a municipal clerk. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are essential. Other desired qualifications include familiarity with Quickbooks and experience in HR management. Employment will be contingent upon City Council approval, the successful completion of a background check, bondability, and a 90-day probationary period. The new hire will also be expected to obtain a Kentucky notary public license if they do not already have one.
Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Status: Salaried, full-time exempt. Working hours will generally be daytime Monday-Friday as well as attendance at evening City Council meetings, plus any major citywide events (e.g., July 4th). Benefits include health and life insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, pension contributions, and comp time.
