Job Description: The city is actively seeking a full time employee for it's Electric Distribution Department. This position is open to all skill levels and pay will be based upon experience. Position: Ground Technician (Apprentice Line Technician)
Reports to: Electric Foreman Department: 2-213

JOB SUMMARY: Under close supervision, performs apprentice-level ground work in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems; and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Assists in erecting, removing, and climbing poles, towers, steel, and related structures. Assists in assembling, installing, removing, and transferring such line hardware and electrical equipment as transformers, cross-arms, Insulators, lightning arrestor, guy cables, and related equipment. Trims and removes trees. Assists In installation and maintenance of underground residential distribution. Assists in loading, unloading and operating wire pulling equipment. Assists in repairing breakdowns. Assists in all other departments when necessary. May assist in power plant operator duties. Performs connects/disconnects for services, daily. Works on call hours from time to time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience
: Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED) or graduation from vocational school.
Special Necessary Requirements: Valid Kentucky driver's license.

Position: Line Technician-First Class
Reports to: Electric Superintendent Department: 2-213

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs highly skilled journeyman level work in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems; may serve as assistant line foreman when needed; and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Climbs poles, using spikes and safety belt, to work on service lines. Installs, repairs and replaces such equipment as cross arms, insulators, lightening arrestor, guy cables, and transformers. Performs hotstick work. Transfers lines from old to new poles. Strings primary and secondary lines. Installs equipment such as transformers. Participates in the installation and alignment of power line poles and removal of old poles. Installs, connects, or disconnects service wires from transformers to buildings or houses. Trims and removes trees and brush from electrical lines using power tools and hand tools. By direction, assists in all other departments when necessary. May also perform service work. From time to time serves on call to work after hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience
: Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED) or vocational school, supplemented by three years of responsible experience in the construction or maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
Special Necessary Requirements: Valid Kentucky driver's license.
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of basic electricity. Ability to climb poles and work with electrical lines using proper safety and precautionary measures. Considerable knowledge of safety measures. Ability to work in inclement weather and perform heavy labor. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, superiors and the public. Fitness. Sound Judgment. Ability to read blue prints and make simple drawings and stake lines. Dependability. Alertness. Willingness and ability to train others. Supervisory ability. Integrity.

Job Type: Full-time Pay: $16.26 - $28.01 per hour
