Community Services

Beyond safety and general infrastructure, cities often provide services to enrich and develop the lives of their residents and visitors. Community services include services such as parks and recreation, housing and community development, health initiatives, local welfare, and public transportation. These services can be funded entirely by general revenues, or usage fees can be used to offset the associated costs. Kentucky cities spend nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars each year on community services, which represents just over 11% of municipal  direct expenditures.
