Services

Kentucky cities provide a wealth of services that improve the quality of life for their citizens. In fact, many services provided by local government aren’t always noticed by residents because they have become an expected and engrained part of life. Although the types of services offered by each city vary with population, location, tax base and other factors, many cities provide some of the following types of services:

Many services, such as police and fire protection, are mostly funded with general tax dollars. However, other services can have fees associated with their use. Some of these may include solid waste and recycling collection, utility sales, parking fees, and parks and recreation receipts. KRS 91A authorizes cities to charge user fees for these services as long as the fees do not exceed the reasonable cost of providing the services.
